Frequently asked questions

Why does Game Maps need my location?

To show where you are, guide you turn by turn and record trips. Location is processed on your iPhone. For guidance to keep working with the screen locked, allow location "While Using the App" — iOS keeps it active during a mission or trip recording and shows the blue indicator. Game Maps does not use your location in the background at any other time.

The map doesn't follow me or shows the wrong place
  1. Open iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services and make sure it is on.
  2. Under Game Maps, choose "While Using the App" and turn on Precise Location.
  3. Go outdoors or near a window; GPS can be weak indoors, in tunnels and between tall buildings.
  4. Tap the locate button on the map to re-centre.
Voice guidance is silent

Check that the ringer volume is up, voice guidance is on in the app's settings and your phone isn't in a Focus mode that silences audio. In the car, make sure audio is routed to CarPlay or Bluetooth.

How do I use Game Maps with CarPlay?

Connect your iPhone to a CarPlay-enabled car (cable or wireless) and tap the Game Maps icon on the car's screen. If it isn't shown, go to iPhone Settings › General › CarPlay › your car › Customise and add Game Maps. Start missions from the car screen or the phone; guidance, game-style POI icons and the speed-limit sign show on the car display.

What's included for free, and what does Pro add?

Free: Neon Night and Street Atlas themes, the Satellite Recon, Explorer Topo and 3D City Dusk base maps, 3 navigation missions per day and your last 3 trips. Every Pro theme can be previewed for 30 seconds. Game Maps Pro unlocks all 13 game themes, unlimited missions and your full trip history — weekly, yearly (with a 3-day free trial) or a one-time lifetime purchase.

How do leaderboards and achievements work?

Game Maps uses Apple Game Center. Sign in to Game Center (iOS Settings › Game Center) to post your weekly distance, all-time XP and missions completed to the leaderboards and to unlock 14 achievements. Game Center is optional; only scores and achievements are sent to Apple.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open the Pro screen in the app and tap Restore Purchases, signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you bought with. Restoring is free and works on all your devices with that Apple ID.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone open Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Game Maps and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date (or before the free trial ends) to avoid being charged. Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How accurate are routes, speed limits and traffic?

Routes, traffic, speed limits and addresses come from Mapbox and OpenStreetMap data, and position comes from your iPhone's GPS. They are usually reliable but can be outdated or wrong, especially after road works. Game Maps gives guidance only: always follow road signs and traffic laws, and keep your eyes on the road.

Are my trips backed up or synced?

No. Trips, favourites, XP and achievements are stored only on your iPhone and never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes them. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I turn off notifications or map telemetry?

Notifications: iOS Settings › Notifications › Game Maps. Mapbox telemetry: tap the (i) button on the map and turn Telemetry off.

Is Game Maps made by a game company?

No. The themes in Game Maps are original designs inspired by the look of game minimaps. The app is not affiliated with any game publisher.
